Emergency Certificate for Indian tourists in Japan who lost their passport

Guidelines for Indian tourists who lost their passport in Japan under jurisdiction of this Post (i.e., Mie, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Wakayama, Tottori, Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime and Kochi).

  • Immediately inform the nearest Lost & Found Department, report to the nearest Police Station and obtain Police report from them.

  • Inform this Consulate on Tel No. +81-6-6261-7299 / +81-6-6261-9299 or the emergency no. +81-80-2524-1798 / +81-80-8805-2207.

  • Submit online application for Emergency Certificate at https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission and take its printout after generating an ARN No.

  • It is important to note that Emergency Certificate is a one-time travel document only for travelling back to India.

  • Generation of Emergency Certificate automatically cancels your existing lost passport.

  • Applicants are then required to appear in person at the Consulate to submit following documents:

- Application form of Emergency Certificate
- One passport size photograph (3cm x 3cm) (taken within the last six months)
- Fee of JPY 2530/-
- Police report
- Copy of the passport lost, other supporting evidence of Indian nationality like driving license / voter id card etc.
- Copy of flight details / air tickets.
