Important Guidelines for Consular Applications
To avoid delay in the processing of your application, please check and complete the documents before submitting to the Consulate. Please make sure that the information is correctly filled.
The processing time shown below are only indicative and not binding as due to unavoidable/unforeseen circumstances, it may not be possible to provide the services within the indicated time frame.
The documents as mentioned in each category of applications below are mandatory. However, the applicants may be requested to submit additional documents, if required, on case-to-case basis.
Applied service is not guaranteed as all applications are subject to checks and procedures.
Applicants are required to appear in person at the Consulate to submit their application. Postal applications will not be accepted. However, the attested documents can be requested for dispatch by postal delivery. For this, an empty letter pack addressed to the applicant must be submitted with the form. It may be noted that the applicants seeking delivery by post should do this at their own risk. The Consulate is not responsible for any loss of documents.
All fees are payable in CASH only. Fees details for various services are given below. Applicants should bring the exact required cash.
There is no provision for photocopying of your documents at the Consulate. Please bring all the necessary copies as mentioned in each category of application below.
Facilities for taking photographs and exchange of currency are not available inside the Consulate premises.

5. ATTESTATION OF BACHELORHOOD CERTIFICATE/ SINGLE CERTIFICATE Documents to be submitted/presented: > Duly filled Application Form- form 2. > Document to be attested (original and self-attested copy) > Original passport and a self-attested copy thereof. - A Certificate of bachelorhood/single-status / eligibility to get married can be issued by a competent court / SDM having jurisdiction of the area of the residential address of the applicant in India. This can be in the form of a certificate / affidavit notarized by SDM which is required to be counter-attested by the Home Department of the State concerned. Thereafter, it is to be attested/apostilled by the Attestation Section of the CPV Division of Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. 6. MARRIAGE REGISTRATION Documents to be submitted/presented initially: > Duly filled Application Forms- form 3. > Self attested copies of Passports with visa status of Bride and Groom. > Copy of passport and Residence Card of three witnesses. If the witness is Indian national, then a copy of his visa page should also be submitted. > One Joint photo and one passport size photo of Bride and Groom. > Copy of Bachelor Certificate / Single status certificate duly apostilled by MEA, India and attested by this Consulate. > Census Register (Koseki-Tohon) and Marriage Acceptance Certificate (Juri-Shomeisho) to be translated into English by an authorized translator and attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan. > If divorced, photocopy of divorce decree attested by MEA, India or MoFA, Japan as the case may be. - The parties to the marriage need to be residing within the jurisdiction area of this Consulate - The Schedule II (Notice of Intended Marriage) form will be pasted on the Notice Board for 30 days. A copy of Notice would be sent to the concerned Marriage Officer in India for their records. - After expiry of one month, and if no objections are received in the interregnum, the applicant should approach Consular Section for fixing appointment date with Marriage Officer. - If a Marriage is not solemnized within three months from the date on which notice thereof has been given to Marriage Officer as required by the rules, the notice and all other proceedings arising the reform shall be deemed to have lapsed, and marriage shall not be solemnized until a new notice has been given in the manner laid down in the Act (Special marriage Act 1954). On the day of Marriage registration (after 30 days): - Bride, Groom and three witness are required to visit the Consulate together along with their original passports and residence card. |

7. RENUNCIATION OF INDIAN CITIZENSHIP and SURRENDER OF INDIAN PASSPORT Indian citizens acquiring foreign citizenship are required to ‘Renounce’ their Indian citizenship and deposit their Indian passports for cancellation. Documents to be submitted/presented: > Printout of application forms submitted online through the following links > Original Indian passport and a self-attested copy thereof > Original and a self-attested copy of the new foreign Passport of the applicant > Copy of Certificate of Naturalization and Family Register duly apostilled by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan and its English translation from an authorized translator > One passport size photograph (5cm x 5cm) (taken within the last six months) - For surrender of Passport, submit the online application form through the link at https://mportal.passportindia.gov.in/mission and take printout of the application. - For renunciation of Indian citizenship, submit the online application form through the link at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce and take printout of the application. - Please do not make online payment in this regard, fees to be submitted in the Consulate only. |
