12th International Day of Yoga 2026

The Embassy of India, in collaboration with Viveka Yoga, organised the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on June 21, 2026 under the theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

  1. Set against the historic Gyeongbok Palace, the event brought together around 1000 Yoga practitioners, including Korean friends, members of the Indian community and the diplomatic corps.
  2. In his remarks, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea (ROK), Mr. Gourangalal Das, underscored the growing relevance of Yoga in today’s faced-paced world and its contribution to holistic well-being and preventive healthcare. Highlighting the significance of the theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” he underlined the shared aspirations of India and ROK to build healthier, more inclusive societies where people can lead more meaningful lives.
  3. The two and a half hour program featured the Common Yoga Protocol as well as a range of Yoga demonstrations presented by Korean Yoga practitioners and Yoga organisations. Around 15 local Yoga organisations also set up informational and experiential booths at the venue, reflecting the increasing interest in and appreciation for Yoga within Korean society.
  4. The main celebration at Gwanghwamun Square formed part of a broader series of outreach activities organised by the Embassy in the lead-up to IDY. These included a curtain-raiser event at Namsan-gol Hanok Village on April 07 and Yoga for Productivity at the Workplace sessions conducted at Hyosung Office on May 22, the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade (KIET) and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) on May 27.
  5. The Embassy also organised Yoga events across ROK in June with the support of local partners including the India Centre at Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) in Jeju Island (June 07), Busan (June 13) and in Seoul (June 14), as part of the Car-Free Jamsugyu Bridge Festival. The concluding event of IDY 2026 celebrations in ROK is scheduled to take place at Nami Island on June 27, in cooperation with Nami Island Arts and Education Inc.
