The Embassy of India, Seoul will be organising a series of Yoga events across several cities in the Republic of Korea (RoK) to commemorate the 12th International Day of Yoga.

2. At India's Initiative, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution in 2014, that declared 21 June as the International Day of Yoga, and recognized yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being. Subsequently, Yoga was included in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mankind in 2016. Since then, the International Day of Yoga has been commemorated worldwide, including in RoK.

3. This year, the Embassy has been conducting a series of curtain-raiser events since April 2026 in the lead-up to the main event. These initiatives include “Yoga Seoul Connect” at Namsan-gol Hanok Village, “Yoga for Diplomacy,” and “Yoga for Productivity at the Workplace,” among others.

4. Commemorative events will also take place throughout the month of June across key locations, including Jeju Island (June 7), Busan (June 14), Seoul (June 14 & 21), and Nami Island (June 27), with the support of Viveka Yoga, and also other partners - India Centre at Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) and Nami Island Arts and Education Inc..

5. The main event will be held on June 21 at the iconic Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.
