Incredible India – Explore the Extraordinary: Tourism Promotion Event in Seoul

Seoul, 16 March 2026

The Embassy of India in Seoul, in collaboration with stakeholders from the tourism and hospitality sectors, organized a tourism promotion event titled “Incredible India – Explore the Extraordinary” on 16 March 2026 at the Anniversary Hall, Sevit Island in Seoul. The event brought together representatives from the Korean travel industry, media, tourism stakeholders, and travel writers to promote India as a diverse and compelling destination for Korean travelers.

The programme commenced with registration and networking accompanied by a display and tasting of a variety of Indian teas. The formal proceedings began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the spirit of knowledge and friendship.

In his welcome address, H.E. Mr. Gourangalal Das, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea, highlighted the growing people-to-people exchanges and special strategic partnership between India and the Republic of Korea and underscored India’s vast tourism offerings ranging from heritage and spirituality to wellness, nature, and luxury travel. He noted that India’s tourism sector continues to expand its engagement with Korean travelers and travel industry partners.

In his remarks, Ambassador Das also recalled the legendary voyage of Princess Suriratna from Ayodhya, who travelled here, married King Kim Suro and became Queen Heo Hwang-ok of the ancient Gaya Kingdom and said that the ancient thread of connection continues to inspire us as we build bridges of culture, commerce, technology, and increasingly, tourism. He said that India is not merely a destination - it is an experience.

A congratulatory message from H.E. Mr. Kim Dae-Hyun, 2nd Vice-Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, was shared with the audience through a written message displayed during the event as was the message by Mr. Suman Billa, Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Speaking at the event, Mr. Lee Jin Seok, President of the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA) emphasized the growing tourism potential between India and the Republic of Korea and encouraged deeper collaboration between the tourism industries of the two countries.

The event also featured remarks by Mr. Abhishek Gupta, television personality and restaurateur, who spoke about the global appeal of Indian cuisine and street food and its role in bridging the distance between curry and kimchi.

The programme included a series of presentations showcasing the wide spectrum of tourism experiences available in India. These included sessions on luxury tourism in India, air connectivity by Air India, Indian tourist visa services, wellness tourism including yoga and Ayurveda, MICE tourism opportunities in India, Buddhist heritage circuits, and adventure and hiking tourism.

An interactive session on seated yoga and breathing exercises was conducted for participants, offering a glimpse into India’s holistic wellness traditions.

The cultural segment of the event featured an Indian musical performance and a Kathak dance performance, highlighting India’s rich artistic heritage.

The event also included experiential displays and interactions featuring Indian handicrafts, textiles, and Indian tea, as well as a photo wall and traditional Indian attire accessories. Guests were also invited to experience an Indian street food counter during the programme.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks, a lucky draw, and the distribution of mementos, followed by a networking dinner featuring curated Indian cuisine.

The Embassy of India expressed appreciation to all partners, speakers, performers, and participants for their support in making the event a success and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening tourism exchanges between India and the Republic of Korea.
