인도–대한민국 해군 간 첫 번째 양자 해상훈련 개시

인도 해군함 INS 사히야드리(Sahyadri)는 남중국해 및 인도-태평양 지역에서의 작전 배치의 일환으로 2025년 10월 13일 대한민국 부산 해군기지에 기항하여, 인도 해군(IN)과 대한민국 해군(RoKN) 간의 최초 양자 해상훈련에 참가했다.

대한민국 해군은 양국 간 해군 교류 확대와 전략적 동반자 관계의 발전을 강조하며 따뜻하게 환영했다.

INS 사히야드리는 2012년에 취역한 시발릭급(Shivalik-class) 유도탄 스텔스 프리깃함의 세 번째 함정으로, 설계·건조·취역의 전 과정을 인도에서 자체 수행한 ‘자립 인도(Aatmanirbhar Bharat)’ 비전의 대표적 산물이다. 이 함정은 여러 양자 및 다자 해상훈련과 작전 배치에 참여해왔으며, 현재 비샥하파트남(Visakhapatnam)을 모항으로 하는 동부함대(Eastern Fleet) 소속이다.

방문 기간 동안 함정의 승조원들은 기항 단계와 해상 단계로 구성된 훈련에 참여한다.

기항 단계에서는 양국 해군 장병 간 상호 함정 방문, 우수사례 공유, 교차훈련 세션, 친선 체육경기 등이 진행될 예정이다.

함장은 대한민국 해군 고위 관계자 및 지역 주요 인사를 예방할 예정이다.

이후 진행되는 해상 단계에서는 INS 사히야드리와 ROKS 노적봉함(Nojeokbong)이 공동 해상훈련을 실시한다.

인도-태평양 지역의 지정학적 중요성이 지속적으로 커짐에 따라, 양국은 상호 이익을 기반으로 한 협력 관계 구축의 중요성을 인식하고 있다. 최근 몇 년간 양국 해군 간 교류는 크게 확대되어 왔으며, 이번 첫 번째 인도–대한민국 해군 간 양자훈련은 양국 해군 간 오랜 기간의 논의와 준비가 결실을 맺은 결과물이다.

INS 사히야드리의 남중국해 및 인도-태평양 지역 작전 배치는, 인도가 책임 있는 해양 파트너이자 ‘선호받는 안보 파트너(Preferred Security Partner)’로서의 위상을 공고히 하고 있음을 보여준다.

INAUGURAL EDITION OF THE INDIA – REPUBLIC OF KOREA NAVY BILATERAL EXERCISE

Indian Naval Ship Sahyadri, as part of ongoing operational deployment to the South China Sea and Indo-Pacific made a port call at Busan Naval Harbour, South Korea, on 13 Oct 2025 to participate in the maiden Indian Navy (IN) – Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) Bilateral Exercise.

The RoKN extended a warm welcome underscoring the burgeoning Navy-to-Navy interactions and Strategic Partnership between the Governments of India and the Republic of Korea.

Indigenously designed, constructed, and commissioned in 2012, INS Sahyadri is the third ship of the Shivalik Class Guided Missile Stealth Frigates. The ship is a shining example of India's ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision and has been part of several bilateral and multilateral exercises, as well as operational deployments. The ship is based at Visakhapatnam as part of the Eastern Fleet under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command.

During the visit, the ship's crew will participate in the harbour and the sea phase of the inaugural edition of the IN-RoKN Bilateral Exercise. As part of the harbour phase, IN and RoKN officials will engage in reciprocal cross deck visits, sharing of best practices, cross-training sessions, and sport fixtures. The Commanding Officer will call on senior RoKN officials and local dignitaries. The harbour phase will be followed by sea phase, wherein, INS Sahyadri and ROKS Gyeongnam will undertake joint exercises.

With the ever-increasing significance of the Indo-Pacific in the geopolitical seascape, both nations have increasingly recognised the importance of building partnerships, based on mutual interests. The Navy-to-Navy interactions between India and South Korea have grown significantly in recent years, along with their strategic partnership. The ongoing inaugural IN-RoKN bilateral exercise is the culmination of years of discussions and planning between the two navies.

INS Sahyadri's ongoing operational deployment to the South China Sea and Indo-Pacific, underscores India's stature as a responsible maritime stakeholder and Preferred Security Partner.
