마하트마 간디 탄생 156주년 기념행사

주한 인도대사관은 오늘 스와미 비베카난다 주한 인도문화원에서 마하트마 간디 탄생 156주년 기념행사를 개최하였다.

2. 니시 칸트 싱 공관차석 겸 대사대리는 대사관 관계자와 직원, 인도 교민, 한국인 참석자와 함께 마하트마 간디에게 헌화했다. 싱 대사대리는 연설을 통해 많은 이들에게 영감을 준 간디의 생애와 철학에 관한 그의 생각을 이야기하였다.

3. 주한 인도문화원의 한국 학생들은 마하트마 간디를 위한 헌정 음악 공연을 선보였다. ‘마하트마 간디와 평화에 이르는 길: 국경을 초월하는 리더십’을 주제로 한 쇼바나 라다크리슈나의 영상도 상영하였다. 행사는 스와미 비베카난다 주한 인도문화원에서 개최되었다.

4. 행사 이후 참석자들은 마하트마 간디의 흉상이 있는 연세대학교 송도 캠퍼스로 이동하였다. 나렌드라 모디 총리가 2019년 한국 방문을 기념하였을 당시 해당 간디 흉상의 제막식이 개최된 바 있다. 대사관 관계자와 인도 교민, 한국인 참석자들과 외국인 학생들은 탄신 156주년을 기념하여 마하트마 간디 흉상에 헌화하였다.

5. 인도는 10월 2일 간디 탄신일을 기념한다. UN 또한 140여 개 국가의 동의를 얻어 10월 2일을 국제 비폭력의 날로 제정하고 간디의 비폭력 정신을 기린다. 인도의 역사뿐만 아니라 인류에 깊은 영향을 준 간디를 인도가 세계와 함께 기린다는 점에서 큰 의미가 있다. UN은 매년 10월 2일 사무총장의 연설과 함께 현시대에도 여전히 유효한 마하트마 간디의 철학을 기념하는 행사를 개최한다. 인도에서는 이날 라즈 가트에 공물을 헌정하고 문화·교육 프로그램 및 공공 캠페인을 벌이며 마하트마 간디의 정신을 기념한다. ‘스와치 바랏 미션’ 캠페인을 통해 위생 환경을 개선하고 인도의 전통 패브릭 ‘카디’와 지역산업 부흥을 통해 자립 인도를 도모하는 등의 노력도 이루어진다.

Commemoration of 156th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

The Embassy of India, Seoul, commemorated the 156th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in the Embassy premises.

2. Deputy Chief of Mission & Cd'A Mr. Nishi Kant Singh, together with Embassy Officers and officials, members of the Indian diaspora and Korean participants offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Cd'A in his remarks shared his insights on Gandhi ji’s inspirational life and philosophy.

3. The Korean students of SVCC performed musical compositions dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. and, a video message by Dr. Shobhana Radhakrishna titled 'Mahatma Gandhi's Path to Peace: Inspiring Leadership Across Borders' was screened. The event was held at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center in the Embassy of India.

4. This was followed by a visit to the Yonsei University (Songdo Campus), which hosts the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. The bust was unveiled during the visit of the Hon'ble Prime Minister t the Republic of Korea in 2019. Embassy officials, members of the Indian diaspora, Korean participants and foreign students attended the event at Yonsei and offered floral tributes to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi on his 156th birth anniversary.

5. October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti in India, while across the globe it is observed as the International Day of Non-Violence, following 2007 United Nations resolution that received support from over 140 countries. This dual observance gives the day a unique significance that is rooted in India’s national memory yet shared as a universal message for humanity. At the UN, the day is observed with statements from the Secretary-General and events that connect Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy to today’s realities. In India, the observance takes the form of tributes at Raj Ghat, cultural and educational programs, and public campaigns that highlight Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals. These include Swachh Bharat Abhiyan that promotes cleanliness, to the revival of Khadi and rural industries symbolising self-reliance.
