Tree Plantation Drive under PM Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign”

Seoul, March 28, 2025

The Embassy of India in Seoul, in partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, organized a tree plantation event under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign (One Tree in the name of Mother)” initiative at Boramae Park on March 28, 2025. The event also commemorated ‘Arbor day’ in RoK aimed at preserving trees and forests and promoting green cover.

Ambassador Amit Kumar and Deputy Mayor of Seoul Kim Byeong Min joined members of the Indian diaspora to plant twenty-five Plum and Red Plum trees each in an area designated as “India-Korea Friendship Garden” under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, a unique initiative combining environmental action with a heartfelt tribute to mothers. 

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2024, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India had launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which aims to honor and celebrate motherhood by encouraging people to plant a tree in the name of their mothers and create a lasting memory.

Separately, Amb Kumar along with the Deputy Mayor Kim, Mr. Im Man-kyu, Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Environment and Water Resources Committee, Mr. Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, Czech Ambassador Ivan Jancarek and other dignitaries also participated in a commemorative tree-planting ceremony organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

The tree planting event witnessed enthusiastic participation of the members of Indian diaspora from business & academic circles as well as volunteers and local community members. The Embassy of India, Seoul and the Seoul Metropolitan Government came together for this tree plantation drive to encourage all citizens to create a lasting legacy of green spaces, and underlined the role individuals can play in creating a greener, more environment-friendly world.
