Visit of Delegation led Mr. Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary, Ministry of Steel to South Korea (17-18 July 2025)

The Embassy hosted the visit of a delegation led Mr. Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary, Ministry of Steel to South Korea from 17-18 July 2025. He was accompanied by CMD, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL); CMD, NMDC Ltd, and others

Ambassador Amit Kumar met the delegation and discussed growing engagement of Korean steelmakers in Indian steel sector

The delegation held meetings with Mr Seung-ryul Lee, Deputy Minister for Industrial Policy, MOTIE; Mr Lee Hee-geun, CEO, POSCO; and Mr Kim Won-bae, Executive VP, Hyundai Steel. Roundtable discussion was also held with the Korea Iron and Steel Industry Association (KOSA), and the delegation visited POSCO facility in Pohang. 

Secretary, Ministry of Steel, apprised Korean stakeholders about the rising business and investment opportunities in Indian steel sector with 12% growth in the last three years. Encouraged them to join this journey as India targets to achieve 300 MT of steel production by 2030 and 500 MT by 2047. They also invited them to participate in Bharat Steel Expo scheduled to be held in April 2026 in New Delhi.
