주한 인도대사관, 인도-한국 수교 50주년 기념일 행사 개최

주한 인도대사관은 인도-한국 수교 기념일을 맞이하여 2023년 12월 13일 주한 인도문화원에서 특별 기념행사를 개최하였다.

아밋 쿠마르 주한 인도대사의 환영사 이후에는 정병원 외교부 차관보의 축사가 있었다. 신봉길 전 주인도 한국 대사가 인도-한국 관계의 찬란한 미래를 위하여 건배를 제안하였다.

아밋 쿠마르 대사는 환영사에서 정치, 안보 및 전략, 경제통상, 에너지, 인프라, 기술, 스타트업 혁신, 대학 간 교류, 언론, 문화, 관광, 인적 교류를 비롯한 분야의 양자 관계가 지속 발전함을 평가하며 수교 기념일의 중요성을 강조하였다. 쿠마르 대사는 활력이 넘치는 민주주의 국가이자 공동의 가치를 향유하는 경제 대국인 인도와 대한민국이 미래지향적인 관계 발전을 위하여 더욱 긴밀히 협력해야 함을 강조하였다. 나렌드라 모디 총리와 윤석열 대통령 간 수교 50주년 기념 축전 교환도 언급하였으며, 양 정상이 특별 전략적 동반자 관계를 강화∙심화∙발전시키자는 데 뜻을 함께하였다는 사실도 전하였다.

정병원 외교부 차관보는 양국이 불교와 같은 공동의 역사∙문화 유산으로 연결되어 있다고 하였으며, 한국전쟁 당시 인도의 기여는 인도와 한국의 오랜 우정을 잘 보여주는 사례라고 하였다. 정 차관보는 공급망, 방산, 첨단 기술, 인적 교류 부문에서 양국이 특별 전략적 동반자 관계를 발전시켜 왔음을 강조하였다. 정 차관보는 공동의 민주주의 가치와 법치주의를 기반으로 양국이 다면적 파트너십을 지속 확대∙심화하기를 바란다고 하였다.

기념행사에서는 한국∙인도 무용가가 인도 민속춤(라바니) 공연과 카탁 공연을 선보였다.

기념행사에는 약 120명이 참여하였으며, 권기창 한국수입협회 상근부회장, 아닐 신하 주한 인도 상공회의소 회장을 비롯한 정∙재계, 싱크탱크, 학계, 언론, 문화계 유력 인사가 참여하여 자리를 빛냈다.

INDIAN EMBASSY COMMEMORATES 50 YEARS OF INDIA-REPUBLIC OF KOREA DIPLOMATIC TIES

The Embassy of India, Seoul organized a special event on 13 December 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Republic of Korea (ROK), at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Seoul. 

The commemorative event included remarks by Ambassador of India Amit Kumar and Ambassador Chung Byung-won, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Former Ambassador of ROK to India Shin Bong-kil proposed a toast for the promising future of India-ROK diplomatic ties.

Amb Amit Kumar, in his remarks, highlighted the significance of this momentous occasion, as both countries continue to expand their bilateral engagements, including on political, security and strategic issues; economic and commercial linkages, energy, infrastructure, technology, startups innovation, university tie-ups, media, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. Amb Kumar underlined that as two robust democracies, and two leading global economies, with shared values, India and the ROK should engage more closely to build a future oriented partnership. He also mentioned the exchange of congratulatory letters by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Yoon Suk Yeol, where they have expressed their intent to further consolidate, deepen and advance the India-ROK Special Strategic Partnership.

Deputy Minister Chung Byung-won noted that common cultural and historical heritage such as Buddhism as well as India’s contribution during the Korean War are shining examples of deep rooted friendship between India and Korea. He underlined that the two nations have been developing the Special Strategic Partnership in the areas of supply chains, defence industries, cutting-edge technologies, and people-to-people exchanges. He expressed hope that both countries will continue to broaden and bolster this multi-faceted partnership, based on the shared values of democracy and the rule of law. 

The celebratory event also comprised mesmerizing Indian Folk Dance (Lavani) and classical Indian dance Kathak performances by Korean and Indian dancers.

The event was attended by around 120 people including prominent dignitaries such as Ambassador Kwon Ki-chang, Vice Chairman, Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), Mr. Anil Sinha, Chairman, Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ICCK), business personalities, political functionaries, think tanks representatives, academics, media, cultural figures and friends of India.
