특별 전략적 관계 강화를 위한 대한민국 공군 참모총장 방문

이영수 대한민국 공군 참모총장은 2024년 3월 17일부터 20일까지 공식 인도 방문을 마쳤습니다. 뉴델리에서 인도 공군 참모총장인 Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari와 함께 공동 관심 분야와 양국 공군 협력 증진 방안에 대해 논의하였습니다. 또한 인도 Defence Secretary Mr. Giridhar Armane와 새로운 분야인 항공우주, AI, 사이버 기술 협력에 대해 이야기를 나누었습니다.

이영수 공군 참모총장은 한국의 방위산업청과 같은 성격을 지닌 기관 중 인도 내 가장 권위있는 기관인 국방연구개발기구(DRDO)의 회장인 Dr. Samir V Kamat과의 만남을 가졌습니다. 이번 만남에서는 공군 관련 연구개발 협력 강화와 새로운 공동의 관심 분야 확인에 대한 논의를 하였습니다.

이번 방문에서 한국 공군은 괄리오르(Gwalior)와 아그라(Agra)에 위치한 공군 기지 두 곳과, 1950-1953년 한국 전쟁 당시 한국에 의료를 지원하였던 인도 육군 제 60 공수 야전 병원 부대를 방문했습니다. 이영수 공군 참모총장은 방문의 국립현충원에서 전사한 군인들에게 경의를 표하는 것으로 이번 방문을 시작하였습니다.

2024년 3월에는 여러 양국간 교류가 있었습니다. 인도와 한국의 외교부 장관은 3월 5-6일 공동위원회를 주최하였으며, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh 인도 외교부 장관은 서울에서 열린 제 3차 민주주의 정상회의에 참석하였습니다. 3월 20일 개최된 KNDA/KIEP-ICWA/RIS 2+2 정책대화에는 한국과 인도의 씽크탱크가 모여 인태 지역 내 인도- 한국 관계를 중점적으로 논의하였습니다. 이러한 교류를 통해 양국이 특별 전략적 동반자 관계 향상을 위해 노력을 기울이고 있다는 것을 알 수 있습니다.

ROK AIR FORCE CHIEF OF STAFF VISITS INDIA TO STRENGTHEN STRATEGIC TIES

General Lee Youngsu, Chief of Staff, ROK Air Force undertook an official visit to India on 17-21 March 2024. In New Delhi, he held bilateral talks with Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of Indian Air Force. Both sides discussed issues of mutual interest and means to further enhance cooperation between the two Air Forces. He also met the Defence Secretary of India Giridhar Armane and discussed new areas of cooperation in field of aerospace, AI and cyber technologies.

2. General Lee also held discussions with Dr. Samir V Kamat, Chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India, a premier organisation on similar lines as of ROK’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). The discussions highlighted the need to strengthen R&D collaboration and identifying new areas of common interest, especially related to the air forces.

3. The ROK AF Delegation also visited two Indian Air Force bases at Gwalior and Agra. General Lee also visited 60 PARA Field Hospital, the Indian Army medical unit which provided medical support during the Korean War (1950-53). Earlier, General Lee had begun his India visit by paying homage to the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.

4. March 2024 saw a number of bilateral exchanges. The Joint Commission Meeting co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers of India and ROK was held on 06 March. Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Mr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh participated in the 3rd Summit of Democracy in Seoul. The KNDA/KIEP-ICWA/RIS 2+2 Policy Dialogue among ROK and Indian think-tanks was held on 20 March, focusing on India-ROK ties in the Indo-Pacific context. These exchanges underscore the commitment of both sides to strengthen their Special Strategic Partnership.
