Celebration of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and World Hindi Day 2026 at Bharat Bhavan, Hong Kong

Hong Kong | 10 January 2026

The Consulate General of India, Hong Kong & Macau SARs hosted a vibrant and culturally enriching celebration of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and World Hindi Day 2026 at Bharat Bhavan, Hong Kong, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora, community organisations, students, and admirers of the Hindi language from across different sections of society.

The programme commenced with the unveiling of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India’s message on the occasion of Vishwa Hindi Diwas by the Hon’ble Consul General of India, Shri Rajesh Naik, along with Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardees Dr. Harry Banga and Mr. Lal Chellaram, underscoring the importance of Hindi as a global language and a vital link connecting Indians across borders.

In his address, the Hon’ble Consul General highlighted the role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening India’s global outreach and emphasized the significance of preserving linguistic and cultural heritage among younger generations living abroad.

The cultural segment of the programme showcased the rich diversity of Indian performing arts. Members of Maharashtra Mandal Hong Kong presented a soulful rendition of “Vande Mataram” on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the iconic song, followed by a graceful fusion performance of Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam by dancers from Mudra Dance Academy. A contemporary dance presentation by local artistes added further vibrancy to the celebrations.

A special highlight of the event was the participation of students from Sanskriti Global Foundation, who presented Hindi poetry and shared personal reflections on their experiences of learning Hindi in Hong Kong. Their confident expressions and thoughtful narratives reflected the growing relevance of Hindi among the younger generation of the Indian diaspora and the success of structured language education programmes abroad.

The programme also included a poetry recitation on Pravasi Bharatiya Divas by Shri Bob Kripalani, Vice President of The Hindu Association, paying tribute to the contributions and emotional ties of overseas Indians with their homeland.

The celebrations concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the performers and participants by the Hon’ble Consul General.

The event served as a meaningful platform to celebrate India’s linguistic heritage, cultural diversity, and the enduring bonds that unite the global Indian community, echoing the timeless philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the world is one family.
