TAGORE JAYANTI 2020

Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Seoul organised a Video Conference on the occasion of 159^th Birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore on 8th May 2020 (Friday). The event was organised in collaboration with Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul, Indian Art Museum and Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, India - the historic institution established by none other than Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore himself. The video conference was joined by a large number of participants from different parts of the world including the officials from the Embassy of Bangladesh, faculty, students and representatives from Visva Bharati, friends from the Bengali Association of Korea, Tagore Society of Korea and Indians community in Korea.

The event was moderated by Dr. Sonu Trivedi, Director of SVCC and the programme included Rabindra Sangeet Recital by representatives from Visva Bharat, Welcome Address by H. E. Sripriya Ranganathan, Amb of India to ROK, Congratulatory Remarks by H. E. Abida Islam, Amb of Bangladesh to ROK, Keynote Speech by Padma Shri Dr. Kim Yang-shik, Director, Indian Art Museum, Seoul, Special Address by Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty, Vice Chancellor, Visva Bharati, India and Cultural Performances.

Earlier in the day, Mr Satish Sivan, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India and Dr. Sonu Trivedi, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, garlanded and paid a floral tribute to the bust of Rabindranath Tagore at Daehak ro. As a permanent symbol of Tagore’s love and admiration for the people of Korea, a 1.2 metre tall bronze bust was installed in 2011 on the occasion of 150^th Birth anniversary of Tagore at Daehangno’s main street in Seoul. It stands as an evidence of our shared experiences and values between the two countries.

2020년 5월 8일, 주한인도문화원, 주한인도대사관은 노벨문학상 수상자인 라빈드라나트 타고르 탄생 159주년 기념일을 맞이하여 화상 회의 프로그램을 통해 온라인 행사를 진행했습니다. 이 행사는 주한 방글라데시대사관, 인도박물관, 그리고 구르데브 라빈드라나트 타고르가 설립한 역사적 기관인 인도 산티니케탄의 비스바 바라티 대학과의 협력 하에 진행되었습니다. 주한 방글라데시대사관 직원, 교수진, 학생, 비스바 바라티 대학의 대표자, 벵갈리협회원, 한국 타고르소사이어티 회원, 한국의 인도인 커뮤니티 등 세계 각지의 많은 사람들이 참여했습니다.

이 날 전체적인 프로그램 진행은 소누 트리베디 주한인도문화원 원장이 맡았으며 비스바 바라티 대학 학생들의 Rabindra Sangeet 낭송, 스리프리야 란가나탄 주한인도대사의 환영사, 아비다 이슬람 주한방글라데시 대사의 축사, 김양식 인도박물관 관장의 스피치, 비스바 바라티 대학 Bidyut Chakrabarty 부총장의 말씀과 각국의 문화 공연 등이 이어졌습니다.

이에 앞서 5월 7일 오전, 사티쉬 시반 주한인도대사관 부대사와 소누 트리베디 스와미 비베카난다 주한인도문화원 원장은 서울의 대학로에서 라빈드라나트 타고르의 흉상에 기념 헌화식을 가졌습니다. 타고르 탄생 150주년을 기념해 2011년 서울 대학로 중심가에 설치된 1.2m 높이의 흉상은 대한민국 국민을 향한 타고르의 사랑과 찬탄의 영원한 상징이자 양국 간의 공유된 경험과 가치를 증명하는 것이기도 합니다.
